Project: Giving Yoga Foundation

Supporting Accessible Yoga for Communities in Need

Giving Yoga Foundation (AdniJóga Alapítvány) makes yoga accessible to people facing complex life challenges. At the core of its work are approximately 15 weekly charitable yoga groups, each carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of participants.

These are not one-size-fits-all classes. Instructors adapt yoga techniques to suit different groups—for example, sessions designed for oncology patients differ significantly from those created for women experiencing homelessness. Each programme functions as a targeted mental and physical health intervention, helping participants improve their wellbeing, build resilience, and regain a sense of stability. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the team have also developed an online wellbeing tool, Online Balance, which helps their beneficiaries access mental health tools in between classes through videos and materials. It also supports their partners in rural areas to distribute these tools further.

Alongside its charitable work, the organisation runs corporate yoga classes and events. Income generated from these activities is reinvested into its community programmes through a cross-subsidy model. In the past seven months, the organisation has faced funding pressures due to lower-than-expected income. As a result, it is undertaking a comprehensive review of its financial model to ensure long-term sustainability.

To support this transition, the Foundation is providing a combination of financial and professional support. This includes stopgap funding to help cover operational costs and support to review and strengthen the organisation’s cross-subsidy model.

The objective of the partnership is to keep vital wellbeing services accessible to those who need them most—while supporting the organisation to build a more sustainable and resilient future.
